Translation principles

I believe that the translator must be reasonably familiar with the subject of the translation. If the translator does not understand the source language, s/he cannot do a good translation. In my capacity of lawyer and finance ministry official my strong subjects are law and economics.

On the other hand, I do not like to accept jobs concerning e.g. manuals for technical appliances, information technology or genetics. However, I accept texts of a general nature that do not require specialized knowledge.

Invoicing principles

My general principle is that for running text I charge 1,50 euro per 60 characters, including spacing. For other kinds of text, e.g. certificates and similar documents, I charge 60,- euro per hour. For particularly complicated texts I increase my fee by 10 – 15 %.

However, in practice the general procedure is that I give a tender for a specific job and I charge the agreed price.

I add 24 % VAT to the price, unless reverse charge according to the EU value added tax directive applies, or unless the customer is situated outside the EU.
